Milking disrupted by snow

7:00 am on 6 October 2009

Some dairy farmers in inland Hawkes Bay and the central plateau have been unable to milk their cows because of power cuts caused by the snow.

A dairy farming operation at Tangiwai, between Waiouru and Ohakune missed two milkings.

But the owner, former Federated Farmers president Charlie Pedersen, says they were able to get the cows milked on Monday afternoon after installing a generator.

Some central North Island farmers have complained about the lack of warning about the snow storm.

But Mr Pedersen says his farms had plenty of notice and were able to make sure they and the cows were prepared for it.
