Risk of mastitis rising - vets

6:20 am on 7 October 2009

Dairy farmers are being warned about an increased risk of mastitis infection in their cows following days of power cuts to parts of the central and eastern North Island.

Some dairy farmers in inland Hawkes Bay and the central plateau have been unable to milk because of the cuts.

The Veterinary Association says there's an increased risk of mastitis, an infection of the udder when the weather is cold and the cows are not being milked.
