Farmers in the central North Island say snow is still preventing them from reaching parts of their properties, but they expect to find heavy stock losses.
Heavy snow fell across the region on Sunday.
Lloyd Holloway, whose Waitara Station is near the high point on the Napier-Taupo Road, says it could be a week before he reaches higher parts of the farm.
In addition to snow coming in the middle of lambing, he says the problem now will be sickness among animals who can't get to food.
Mark Haynes, who manages Ohinewairua Station on the Napier-Taihape Road, says the property is still completely covered in snow.
He expects heavy stock losses and says it is very unusual to get so much snow at this time of year.
