This weekend marks the passing of the baton for two animal welfare leaders.

National animal ethics advisory committee chair John Martin will be replaced by Dr Virginia Williams, who has also been the animal welfare co-ordinator for the Veterinary Association.

And the term's also come to an end for national animal welfare advisory committee chair, Dr Peter O'Hara.

He will be replaced by biosecurity consultant Dr John Hellstrom.

The changes will take effect on 1 November.
