Shrek inspires book on Bendigo Station

A 16-year-old merino, Shrek, is the inspiration for a new book on Bendigo Station in Central Otago.

Shrek made international headlines in 2003 when he was finally caught after avoiding musterers on the station for six years and shorn of his 27 kilogram fleece.

Station owner and author John Perriam says the book is a chance to put the record straight about Shrek, but is also about the 11,000 hectare station which was the site of the richest quartz reef gold strike in New Zealand history.

Royalites from the book Dust to Gold: the Inspiring Story of Bendigo Station, Home to Shrek go to the Cure Kids fund.
