Organisers of this year's Air New Zealand Wine Awards say a record number of gold medals have been awarded, despite it being a difficult year for the industry.
102 gold medals were awarded across 14 wine varieties, the first time in the competition's history that more than 100 medals have been given out.
Pinot Noir scored the most golds this year with 19, followed by Chardonnay (18) and Sauvignon Blanc (13).
The judges also awarded 251 silver and 387 bronze medals.
112 "pure" medals were given out to sustainable wines, which is almost twice as many as last year.
The trophy winners - the competition's top prize - will be announced on 21 November.
