Meat and Wool New Zealand chairman Mike Petersen is hoping a joint marketing arrangement it's proposing with meat companies will boost the industry's promotional efforts in export markets.
The levy-funded body has had to ditch plans for limited wool promotion after farmers refused to support renewing the wool levy.
The loss of $6 million annual funding has forced the organisation to cut some of its non-wool activities as well, including a $1.3 million reduction in funding market development programmes to increase demand for New Zealand lamb and beef.
However, Mr Petersen is hoping a joint marketing body it's discussing with meat companies will restore some of the impetus.
