Otago desperately short of rain

6:35 am on 10 December 2009

Latest rainfall figures for Otago show most of the region is still desperately short of rain.

Farmers have reported the lowest rain fall recorded in Central Otago in about 75 years, for this time of year.

Figures for November, gathered by the Rain Effects service show most of Otago has dried off earlier than usual.

Consultant Dave Stewart says the main culprit has been the wind which evaporated any moisture that did fall.
