Apple claim described as scaremongering

Pipfruit New Zealand chief executive Peter Beaven says claims by a public watchdog group that apples are unsafe to eat, are rubbish.

The Safe Food Campaign organisation has placed apples in sixth place on a 'dirty dozen' list of foods most likely to contain pesticide residues.

Researcher Alison White says they were ranked according to the percentage of samples containing residues, and the number of chemicals detected in the samples.

But Pipfruit NZ chief executive Peter Beaven says the campaign's data for apples is wrong.
