Extra care advised with stock effluent

12:50 pm on 3 February 2010

Hawke's Bay Regional Council is advising farmers to take extra precautions in managing stock effluent during the next few days.

It says the ground is saturated from recent heavy rain and spraying effluent on to pasture under those conditions could cause direct runoff, polluting nearby waterways.

The council says farmers should also check the levels in their effluent ponds to make sure they are not over-topping.
