Critic happy about riparian planting tax break

Fish & Game New Zealand says the Government deserves a big pat on the back for introducing a tax break on riparian planting.

The organisation, which manages hunting and sport fishing, is highly critical of the impact that dairy farming has on the environment.

But it says the tax change the Government announced this week - which makes the trees and shrubs farmers plant alongside waterways tax deductible - is a commonsense and simple intitative which will make a real difference to water quality.

Chief executive Bryce Johnson said Conservation Minister Nick Smith and the Government deserve to be applauded.
