Farmers coping with wet, windy weather

10:28 pm on 15 July 2013

Farmers in the lower North Island appeared to have coped reasonably well with wet and windy weather over the last few days.

Strong winds and rain affected the east coast of the North Island from Gisborne to Wellington and also across to Taranaki.

In Manawatu, low-lying land has had some surface flooding.

Palmerston North dairy farmer James Stewart says there's lots of surface water in his area, but no significant flooding.

He says the rain stopped just in time and hopes the bitter wind will abate before his own farm gets starts calving.
