Bovine TB found in Bay of Plenty

6:08 am on 17 February 2010

A new outbreak of bovine tuberculosis in a dairy herd has been detected in an area of the Bay of Plenty which is supposed to be free of the disease.

The Animal Health Board is now investigating the source of the infection.

It's the fourth suspected Tb-free region to be infected with the disease in a year: outbreaks have been detected in Taranaki, Tararua and Northland.

The board says the outbreaks have usually occured when infected animals were introduced to the herd from another region.
