Fonterra predicts rise in milk production

Fonterra has raised its milk production forecast for the current season.

Based on the strong start to the season, it is now predicting the milk supply to be 5% percent higher than the past year.

Production during the first three months of this season has been almost 3.5% above the same period last year, when the milk flow was heading for a new record before the summer drought set in.

The co-operative says the improvement in climatic conditions over the past few months has brought temperatures and pasture growth back into line with more normal growing conditions.

It is expecting those to continue, compared with the large variation experienced in the 2012-13 season.
