Irrigation repair crews working against the clock

11:07 am on 2 October 2013

Technicians trying to repair damaged irrigators in Canterbury are working against the clock, as gale force winds are forecast for the next 24 hours.

About 800 irrigators were damaged by a severe storm on 10 September.

Replacement parts have arrived from Australia, but larger parts coming from manufacturers in America are still being shipped in.

Irrigation New Zealand project manager Paul Reese says the repair crews will have to down tools if this next weather front is as wet and windy as expected.

Bad weather can make pipes slippery and dangerous.
