Less milking on West Coast

12:52 pm on 26 February 2010

A dry spell on the West Coast of the South Island has forced some dairy farmers to reduce their milking, which will curb their production for the rest of the season.

Federated Farmers says they have gone to milking once per day to give their pasture a chance to recover. Most of the farmers will stay that way now, for the rest of the season.

West Coast president Katie Milne says Westland Milk products is still running about 2% ahead of last season for milk supply, but that includes milk coming in from Canterbury.
