Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy says an agricultural counsellor is to be appointed to the New Zealand Embassy in Jakarta.
The minister says the posting is in recognition of the growing importance of the trade relationship with Indonesia, and part of the ministry's efforts to increase its presence in Asian markets.
He says MPI is also doubling its market access team in Wellington from eight to 16 people.
The announcement of the new position comes a week after Trade Minister Tim Groser told a business conference the Primary Industries Ministry is so under-resourced it cannot do its job.
