Cook Strait quakes still affecting Marlborough farmers

9:18 am on 28 November 2013

There are concerns that some Marlborough farmers who live very close to the epicentre of August's 6.6 magnitude earthquake at Lake Grassmere are struggling to cope with the aftermath.

Top of the South Rural Trust's field facilitator Ian Blair says the pressure on many farmers has been immense and some are showing signs of depression as they try to fix farms and homes.

He says there are concerns the stress could manifest itself in terms of domestic violence.

Mr Blair says although they are not getting those reports from the police, the observation is that there is more violence in the home.

He says help is available from organisations such as the Rural Support Trust and Victim Support.

Radio New Zealand's Insight programme on Sunday 1 December has more on how the communities of Seddon and Ward have been affected by the Cook Strait quakes.
