Push for AgResearch no-confidence vote

11:31 am on 13 April 2014

Otago and Southland sheep breeders are trying to muster support for a vote of no confidence in AgResearch's management.

The Crown Research Institute is proposing to shift about 80 mainly animal genetics scientists from its Invermay facility near Dunedin to a new research hub at Lincoln University by 2016.

Last month about 80 sheep breeders unanimously rejected AgResearch's plan at a meeting called by the Southern Texel Breeders' Association.

Association chairman Hugh Gardyne says AgResearch has failed to adequately consult stakeholders or respond to submissions.

He says the Association now has no other option but to call a vote of no confidence in AgResearch's board and executive. The vote will close on Sunday 20 April.
