Owners' input sought on safety review

Forest owners and contractors are urging everyone in the industry to participate in a safety review.

The independent panel appointed to find solutions to the sector's high accident rate released a consultation document last week.

It identified a lack of mandatory safety standards in the forest industry and a lack of consistency in training and observing codes of practice.

Forest Owners Association (FOA) president Paul Nicholls said the review panel was following up that report with a series of meetings starting in Balclutha on Thursday.

He said it was important that forestry people attended to have their say and the give the panel feedback on the consultation document.
