South Canterbury business leader Allan Hubbard has been honoured for his outstanding leadership in irrigation.

He was awarded the Ron Cocks Memorial Award at the national irigation conference in Christchurch this week.

Mr Hubbard was a driving force in establishing the Opuha dam, which generates power as well as providing water for irrigation and urban use in Central Canterbury.

He's also been a key figure in the Canterbury Central Plains irrigation project.
