NZ meat and seafood focus of trade mission to China

9:45 am on 11 May 2010

New Zealand's growing seafood and meat trade to China is the focus of the latest trade mission there.

Trade Minister Tim Groser is leading the first of six trade missions to the World Expo that opened in Shanghai on 1 May.

Mr Groser says the Government has invested a lot of money in the New Zealand pavilion at Expo.

He says ministerial trade missions, supported by individual company and regional initiatives, are part of a strategy to leverage off that investment.

Travelling with the Minister are representatives of the seafood companies Sanford, Sealord Group, Oceanz Blue, Greenshell NZ Ltd, the New Zealand King Salmon Company, Pacifica Seafoods and Wakatu Incorporation and Silver Fern Farms meat co-operative.

The Shanghai Expo runs until 30 September.

An estimated seven million visitors will see the New Zealand pavilion during that time.
