Stud bull selling season begins

6:03 am on 17 May 2010

The stud bull selling season for the beef industry opens this week, with the annual Beef Expo at Feilding.

Breeding bulls from seven breeds will be judged and auctioned on Monday and Tuesday.

The auctions have attracted record entries which have been sorted in a pre-sale inspection process, to ensure the best quality bulls are on offer.

Auctioneer Bruce Orr of PGG Wrightson says there are mixed signals for the beef industry, right now.

There are good returns from exports but the drought and competition from dairying are putting pressure on production.
