Rising dollar hurts wool prices

8:13 am on 14 November 2014

Wool prices have taken a hit from the rising New Zealand dollar. Prices fell across the board at this week's sale of North Island wool.

The exporter, New Zealand Wool services International, reports that cross-bred fleece prices fell by 4 percent and shears by 1 to 4 percent, compared with the last North Island sale.

Compared with last week's South Island sale, the price fall in most cases was even greater.

There were fewer than 6000 bales up for auction and 83 percent sold.
