The tap turned off for a while would be nice

A North Otago farmer representative says the region's had more rain than it can handle and he'd like the tap turned off for a while.

The widespread intensive rainfall during the past two weeks has broken the drought in all parched parts of the country.

But Federated Farmers' North Otago president, Ross Ewing, says that with cold conditions setting in now, and snow on the hills, a break in the wet weather would be useful.

Mr Ewing says localised flooding, which has cut the main highway again north of Oamaru, is a drainage issue that roading authorities need to deal with.

Meanwhile, high-country farmers appear to be taking the first snow of the season in their stride, with most reporting adequate feed on hand at this stage.
