AgResearch has appointed the head of the Crown Research Institute Scion, in Rotorua, as its new chief executive.
Dr Tom Richardson, who is originally from the United States, has been with the forest research institute for 18 years.
He has a science background in genetics and helped to establish the genomics research group at Scion.
Dr Richardson is also a director of the Foundation for Research, Science & Technology, Future Forests Research and Science New Zealand.
He will replace Dr Andrew West who resigned from AgResearch earlier this year.
Dr West has been appointed head of research and development for Seales, an animal nutrition company based in Waikato.
Dr West, who spent six years in the 1980s with the former DSIR, joined AgResearch six years ago.
He leaves the institute to take up the new role in August.
