More Auckland dairy farmers meet standards

Auckland Regional Council says dairy farmers in its area are cleaning up their act.

The council's latest figures on compliance show that 94% of dairy farms in the region met environmental standards in the year to June, up from 77% last season.

The report also says that only 6%, or 20 farms, had serious environmental compliance issues with effluent discharge, five fewer farms than in the previous year.

Environmental management committee chair Dianne Glenn says it shows an impressive effort by the farmers to meet environmental standards.
