7:35 am on 28 July 2015

Cloudy Bay's Matt Duggan has been named the Marlborough Young Viticulturist of the year for the third time.

The 29-year-old beat five other contestants through a speech-making competition and a series of quizzes on topics including pruning, trellising, pests and diseases, budgeting and irrigation.

Mr Duggan goes through to the national final at the end of August, where he will compete against regional finalists from Hawke's Bay and Martinborough.

The winner will represent the viticulture industry at the Young Horticulturist of the Year competition in November.
