New Zealand shearers had a successful weekend in another warm-up for the world shearing championships in Wales later this month.
Shearer John Kirkpatrick of Napier won the open final at the Lakeland Shears in Cockermouth, Cumbria, on Saturday.
Kirkpatrick headed off the official New Zealand machine shearing representatives, David Fagin and Cam Ferguson who were second and third in the same event.
New Zealand blade shearing team, Brian Thomson and Allen Gemmell, from Canterbury, also took the first two placings in their contest.
However, leading South African and Lesotho shearers who have dominated recent World Championships blades finals, were missing from the event.
New Zealand shearers will be competing at the Great Yorkshire Show later this week and at other one-day events, in the lead up to the world championships at the Royal Welsh Show on 20-21 July.
