The head of the national kiwifruit contractors association is disappointed some contractors are still operating illegally.
The Labour Department is investigating complaints that some kiwifruit workers have been underpaid, or not paid at all, and that some contractors have given out false details.
New Zealand Kiwifruit Contractors Association president Matt Johnston says the industry has worked hard over the past five years to clean up its act and get rid of cowboy operators.
Mr Johnstone says kiwifruit growers need to help out contractors by using registered operators, or at least making sure they're paying them enough for their services.
