Series of farmer meetings begins in shearing sheds

Beef and Lamb New Zealand is getting back to its roots by holding farmer update gatherings this year in wool sheds.

The first of the organisation's 100 farmer meetings started on Tuesday in Hawke's Bay. The organisation is funded by levies.

Beef and Lamb, formerly Meat & Wool New Zealand, no longer deals with wool.

But chairman Mike Petersen says the reason behind having the meetings in shearing sheds is to make the organisation more accessible to sheep and beef farmers.

The shearing shed meetings will be held over the next five weeks.
