More collaboration in South Island dairy research

A new position at Lincoln University will reinforce the increased focus on dairy industry research in the South Island.

Dairy New Zealand's principal animal scientist, Dr John Roche, has been appointed an adjunct professor at Lincoln.

Dr Roche says it adds to the already strong links between the levy-funded body and the university, which have developed with the growth of dairying in the South Island.

He says the Lincoln appointment will also enhance research collaboration going on nationally to improve dairy farm production and profitability and keep New Zealand competitive.

That includes establishing how the increasing use of supplements, such as grain, maize silage and palm kernel extract, fits into what's traditionally been a pasture-based farming system.
