More rain forecast for North Canterbury

North Canterbury farmers are preparing for more bad weather with two days of solid rain forecast for the region.

MetService expects more than 250mm of rain to fall in North Canterbury and Kaikoura over the next 48 hours.

Flooding and land slips from heavy rain have already caused road closures around Domett, Cheviot and Kaikoura.

The Hurunui and Waimakariri District Councils have activated their emergency operations centres.

Federated Farmers North Canterbury president Chris Sundstrum, says 50mm of rain has fallen at his property since Sunday morning.
