Remarkable recovery seen by Waikato dairy farmers

Dairy farms in Waikato have made a remarkable recovery in the past three months.

Dairy NZ representative Duncan Smeaton says farmers in the region went into the new dairy season, in June, in drought, with cows in poor condition and very low and damaged pasture cover.

He says in the past three months there's been an amazing turnaround and a lot of farmers are in far better shape than they expected to be.

He said pasture growth, particularly rye grass, has made a really good recovery.
