Aim at Asia, organic producers advised

The head of an international organics group says Asia is the biggest market opportunity for New Zealand organic produce.

The president of the International Organic Agriculture Movement, Katherine DiMatteo, says organic produce sales in Asia are increasing by about 15% to 20% a year.

She says it would be a significant market for New Zealand to tap into, particularly because of the country's GE-free status.

Ms DiMatteo says that in the past few years the number of organic producers in New Zealand has grown by a third, and the value of production has doubled to almost half a billion dollars a year.
