The new Wool Group set up by the Agriculture Minister to develop a strategic direction for the wool industry has appointed Colin Harvey as its independent chairman.
The minister, David Carter, formed the group of 18 - who represent growers, exporters and processors - after a meeting he held in Wellington last year to sort out a crisis the wool industry was in.
Mr Carter says he challenged the Wool Group to find a leader from outside the wool industry and it has done that.
He says Mr Harvey has made a significant contribution to the animal health industry in New Zealand and has the right skills to help the strong wool industry get back on track.
Mr Harvey, who comes from a dairy farming background, formed a drench company called Amcare in 1985. When he sold it almost three years ago it employed more than 70 staff and had an annual turnover of $45 million.
