Wool group leader seeks industry cohesion

The newly appointed independent chairman of the Wool Group sees his initial task as achieving cohesion in what's a fragmented industry.

Agriculture Minister David Carter set up the group of 18 from all sectors of the wool industry late last year following a wool crisis meeting he held in Wellington in September.

He appointed an interim chairman, but encouraged the group to find their own independent chairman.

Colin Harvey, who's been an enterpreneur in the animal health industry, has just accepted the job.

He says he thinks reason will prevail, and adds it will take time to improve wool values.
