Who's going to pay? rural Selwyn asks

Federated Farmers says Selwyn district locals urgently need some certainty around how the bills for earthquake recovery work are going to be paid.

Representatives from the organisation spent Tuesday travelling around the district assessing damage from Saturday's quake.

There's been substantial damage to shelter belts, fences and grain silos, and repairs are needed to many houses and roads.

Federated Farmers says locals need to know whether the work will be covered by insurance, the Earthquake Commission or government assistance, or whether people will have to find the money themselves.
