Further rain in the Tararua Ranges is putting farmers recovering from flooding this week under more pressure.
A Federated Farmers field officer for Tararua, Andrea Beagley says farmers were forced to shift stock to higher ground on Thursday night.
Up to 100mm of rain was forecast to fall in the ranges overnight, in addition to the 300mm that fell on Monday, which closed roads and flooded farmland.
But Andrea Beagley says the rain could, however, move some of the silt deposited in the flooding.
She says there were only a handful of stock losses reported from Monday's flooding.
