Low rainfall forecast

8:34 am on 3 October 2008

Farmers are anxious over a forecast of below-average rainfall for some parts of New Zealand in the lead-up to summer.

The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research also says warmer than normal temperatures are expected.

But at this stage, there's no sign of the La Nina patterns which plunged parts of the country into an official state of drought earlier this year.

Despite that, Waikato Rural Support Trust chairman Neil Bateup says farmers are anxious and are stockpiling whatever feed they can.
