Three directors on Fonterra board being challenged

6:06 am on 8 October 2010

Three sitting directors on the Fonterra board are being challenged in forthcoming elections.

Chairman Sir Henry van der Heyden, Malcolm Bailey and Ian Farrelly are seeking re-election at the end of their three-year terms.

Their seats are being contested by Cambridge dairy farmer, businessman and former mayor of Hamilton, Russ Rimmington, and Maurice Hardie from the Bay of Plenty. Both are making their second attempts to get on the board.

Shareholders will have an opportunity to hear and quizz the candidates at election roadshow meetings early next month, before voting.

The shareholders council will also hold elections in three wards. The other 10 wards are not being contested.
