A new asparagus venture is being set up in Waikato.
The backers are Turners & Growers, its export subsidiary Delica Ltd and Boyd's Asparagus, the largest asparagus grower in the country.
Nearly 600 tonnes of asparagus will be produced annually from 40 hectares of land near the Mystery Creek fieldays site, for domestic and international markets.
Meanwhile, Country Life reports asparagus production in Horowhenua is well below expected for this time of spring, due to cold weather.
As a result, there is shortage of supply for domestic demand.
