Campaigners' motives questioned

Federated Farmers president Don Nicolson has questioned the motives of those behind the Save The Farms campaign.

The campaign, triggered by a bid by Chinese interests to buy the Crafar farms in receivership, wants a halt to farm sales to overseas buyers until there has been a full public debate about the issue.

The group comprises people from legal and professional backgrounds with no direct links to farming.

Mr Nicolson told the Federated Farmers national council in Wellington on Wednesday that to him, the campaign reeks of hypocrisy.
