BoP councils work together on kiwifruit disease

Kiwifruit vines in the western Bay of Plenty infected with the bacterial disease Psa are being transported to a rural recreational park south of Tauranga, in preparation for incineration.

The TECT All Terrain Park on State Highway 36 is due to open to the public next month.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has asked the area's three councils to take all necessary measures to help contain the outbreak.

They identified a remote area to carry out the burning within the 1650 hectare park.

The ministry will collect, transport and dispose of the infected vines and says the incineration will not create any contamination on the land.
