Strong demand for prime lambs

12:46 pm on 26 November 2010

There is strong demand by meat companies in both the North and South Islands for prime lambs at the moment.

A drop in lamb numbers is mainly due to severe losses in some regions from spring storms.

PGG Wrightson says prices are up $10 - $15 on last year.

Canterbury livestock manager Greg Cook says 'exceptional lambs' are reaching $130 - $140 each and a lot are reaching $115 - $120 per head.
