The first Southland ram sale of the season has continued a trend of improved prices and demand seen at North Island sales.

The second annual sale of Romney and Southdown rams at Blair and Sally Robertson's Merrydowns sheep and cattle stud, attracted more than 100 bidders from around the country this week.

There was strong competition for the rams on offer, which all sold.

A Southdown ram fetched the top price of $4600.

The highest priced Romney ram went for $3500.

The sale average of $1040 was well up on last year's average of $960.
