Rain needed on West Coast

7:38 am on 4 December 2010

River levels are dropping like a stone in Tasman.

Water restrictions are starting in Nelson/Motueka on Monday.

However, the West Coast desperately needs some rain.

Country Life reports the dry conditions have come about six weeks ahead of normal.

Silage being made now, may be used much sooner than expected if the rain doesn't come soon.

Peak milk production has dropped quickly because pasture is going to seed.
