Kiwifruit growers to receive update on vine disease

3:46 pm on 20 December 2010

Kiwifruit Vine Health Incorporated will hold meetings in Te Puke and Tauranga on Monday to bring growers up to date on a number of issues relating to the PSA bacterial disease.

The Kiwifruit Industry Advisory Council set up the organisation almost three weeks ago, to implement a management strategy for the disease, and negotiate financial assistance for growers with infected orchards.

There are now 120 orchards with PSA, in all major growing areas except Northland.

Kiwifruit Growers president Peter Ombler says fortunately there are still only three blocks showing advanced symptoms.

He says growers are still being encouraged not to become complacent and to engage in best practice.
