The rain could not have come at a worse time for King Country shearer, Stacey Te Huia as he prepares for his second attempt at the world eight-hour ewe-shearing record on Wednesday.
The sheep being prepared for the record bid at Moketenui Station, near Benneydale, got wet.
Damp sheep could force a postponement.
But windy conditions are helping to dry them and at this stage the attempt is still on.
Te Huia is making his second challenge on the record of 578 ewes, which was set by Matthew Smith of Hawke's Bay at Waitara Station, near Te Pohue, in January.
He almost succeeded when he shore 573 sheep four days later.
