An Oamaru-bred ram fetched the highest price at this month's South Island Perendale Stud Ram Fair in Gore.

The ram, bred by Blair Smith and David Ruddenklau of Newhaven Perendale in Oamaru, sold for $20,500.

The ram's sire was supreme champion at last year's Canterbury A&P Show in Christchurch.

Of the 48 rams on offer at the fair, five were passed in and the remaining 43 sold at an average price of $2200, which was $100 lower than last year's average.
